about-graphic1The Sweet Orange Blog 2.0

I’m back. After an approximately seven month hiatus, I have decided to start posting again, at least occasionally. However, the focus of this blog will change. The focus will evolve as I go along, so I am as curiosity as some of you might be to see just where this evolution takes us.

Let the evolution begin!

The Sweet Orange Blog 1.0

Welcome to the Sweet Orange Housing Blog where I will be answering the question: Is the Orange County housing juice worth the squeeze? I’ll do this by focusing on the housing numbers for Orange County cities. However, since the numbers don’t give the complete picture of a community, I also will write about the people, places and things that make these cities what they are.

In some ways, this will be a continuation of my past life as a blogger for Redfin. In that life, I wrote about housing in Irvine and Costa Mesa. As I learned then, the housing numbers and community news for these two cities can give insight into Orange County as a whole and the country at large. The reverse is also true: what happens at the Orange County and national level affects what happens in Irvine and Costa Mesa. Therefore, that will all be in the mix on this blog.

About the Writer

my-photoMy name is Sylvia Walker, and I am the writer and publisher of this blog. I grew up in Orange County; however, at the age of twenty I decided to venture out and see what the rest of the world looked like. Eventually, I ended up in the Silicon Valley area and spent many years there. While in the Silicon Valley, I worked as a freelance writer for high-tech companies such as Applied Materials, National Semiconductor, Applied Biosystems, and Oracle Corporation.

I enjoyed my time in the San Francisco Bay Area and working in the high-tech industry; however, fate intervened, and I returned to Orange County. Currently, I am pursuing freelancing, but I am shifting my focus to public policy, sustainability, cleantech and land use issues.
